Pen barrels are narrow, curved and small, so a logo that looks sharp on a business card or letterhead can lose detail once it's reduced to fit a pen. Checking these points before you send your file saves a round of revisions.
File Format
Vector files (AI, EPS or a vector-based PDF) scale to any size without losing sharpness and are the preferred format for logos with fine detail or text. A high-resolution PNG or JPG can also work for simpler logos, provided it isn't stretched up from a small original.
Colour Count
Check how many colours are in your logo before choosing a pen finish. UV printing can reproduce full-colour artwork, but laser engraving and foil stamping are single-tone finishes — a multi-colour logo will need to be simplified to one colour for those methods.
Minimum Text Size
Small print text, taglines or website addresses often become unreadable once scaled down to pen width. If your logo includes a tagline, check whether it's still legible at roughly the width of a pen barrel before finalising the file.
Contrast Against the Pen Body
A dark logo on a dark pen, or a light logo on a light pen, can disappear even if the print itself is technically accurate. Pick a pen colour that contrasts with your logo, or ask for a proof against your chosen pen colour before the full order runs.
Orientation and Placement
Most pens print along one flat or curved panel of the barrel. Very wide logos or long taglines may need to be shortened, stacked, or reduced to a monogram or icon version to fit that panel cleanly.
