A door name plate identifies a room or occupant along a route. A desk plate is usually read closer up. Choose the wording and format around that viewing position.
Decide what the name plate identifies
For a door, a permanent room number may remain useful even when the occupant changes. For a desk, a person’s name and role may be enough. Confirm whether visitors need a department, appointment status or other detail before adding it. More text requires more space to stay readable.
Check the mounting and surroundings
Send a photo of the door or desk and note the available width. For wall or door plates, identify the surface and whether drilling is possible. For desk plates, check that the display will not sit behind a monitor or other equipment. Ask for the base or fixing to be included explicitly.
Plan for future changes
If names change frequently, discuss replaceable inserts or another suitable update method. When matching an existing holder, provide the insert dimensions and visible opening. Keep the approved artwork and finish reference for future orders. A similar photo alone may not be enough to reproduce the same material or colour.
