How to Prepare Your Photos for Canvas Printing: A Practical Guide

How to Prepare Your Photos for Canvas Printing: A Practical Guide

Canvas is a forgiving print medium, but a little preparation on your end makes a real difference to the final result. Here is what to check before you send your photo over.

1. Use the original file, not a shared copy

Photos sent through chat apps and social media are often compressed and reduced in resolution automatically. Where possible, send the original file from your phone, camera, or cloud storage rather than a copy that has already been shared once or twice.

2. Check the image at full size before sending

Open the photo on a computer screen and zoom in to roughly the size you plan to print. If it looks soft or blurry zoomed in, it will look the same way on canvas — canvas texture softens an image slightly, but it does not add detail that is not there.

3. Think about what sits near the edges

Canvas prints are cropped to the chosen size and orientation, and a stretched canvas wraps a small margin of the image around the wooden frame. If a face, logo, or important detail sits close to the edge of your photo, mention it so we can adjust the crop rather than losing it around the side of the frame.

4. Decide if the image needs colour correction

Old or faded photos, or images shot in poor lighting, sometimes benefit from colour correction before printing. Flag this when you order so it can be addressed rather than printed as-is.

5. Confirm orientation before finalising

Double-check portrait, landscape or square matches what you actually want on the wall — this is the easiest detail to overlook when ordering online.
