Set the finished size and information
Start with what the customer needs to read: brand, product name, size, price or a short care message. Decide what belongs on each side. Check the type at the final tag size rather than judging a zoomed screen preview. If information changes by product, list those versions before laying out the files.
Leave room for the hole
Mark the intended attachment point on the layout and ask for the final hole position to be confirmed. Keep text, codes and important artwork clear of that area and the trim boundary. Explain how the tag will hang so the reading direction makes sense when attached to the item.
Check attachments and changing data
Confirm whether string, fastening or assembly is required and included in the quote. Supply the final codes and product information in a clear version list. When using a barcode, preserve its required clear area and test scanning on a physical sample. Match each approved file to its quantity before production.
