Choosing Paper for a Custom Embossing Seal

Choosing Paper for a Custom Embossing Seal

Check the actual paper with the proposed embosser. Thickness, coating and fibre structure affect the result, so a paper weight alone does not guarantee a clear raised mark.

Describe the stock accurately

Send the paper name, weight if known, finish and intended use. A sample is more useful than a screen photograph for judging how the paper handles pressure. Mention whether the design will be embossed on a single sheet, a card or another material.

Keep the design readable

Very small lettering and crowded artwork can become difficult to see as a raised impression. Review the proof at its intended size. A clean outline or simpler logo may suit the paper better than a detailed mark originally designed for colour printing.

Test the impression and the reverse

Check for a readable design, unwanted tearing or excessive distortion. Inspect both sides of the sheet. Use matching spare material before working on finished certificates or stationery, and follow the operating guidance for the tool.

Confirm placement before production

The paper edge and the embosser’s reach determine where the mark can go. Share a sample layout with the position marked. When asking for a custom seal, include the artwork, paper details and intended orientation in the same enquiry.
