How to Photograph a Signature for Stamp Making

How to Photograph a Signature for Stamp Making

Use plain white paper and a dark pen, then capture the signature straight on in even light. A clear original gives the stamp maker a better reference than a signature cropped from a document.

Create a clean sample

Write naturally at a comfortable size. Leave space around the signature so its first and last strokes are not cut off. Avoid ruled paper, pencil marks or writing that overlaps a printed line. Choose the version you want reproduced rather than sending several unexplained alternatives.

Keep the camera square to the paper

Place the sheet flat and avoid shadows from your phone or hand. Hold the camera parallel to the page. Check that the thin strokes are sharp before sending. A scan is also suitable if the original signature is clear.

Send the original image and target size

Avoid repeatedly forwarding or compressing the image. Tell us the available width and height on the form. If a printed name or role belongs under the signature, send that wording separately as text.

Review the proof carefully

Compare the beginning, ending strokes and enclosed loops with your sample. Look at the proof at the intended impression size. Approve only a faithful version of a signature you are authorised to reproduce, and check the recipient’s acceptance rules for its intended use.
