Measure each cosmetic container separately and test a paper label at the intended position. Jars, bottles and tubes with the same volume can have very different usable label areas.
Look for changes in shape
Keep the label clear of shoulders, rounded bases and other areas where it cannot sit flat. On a jar, check whether the design belongs on the side or lid. On a tube, account for the way the container is squeezed during use. Send photos from more than one angle when the shape is difficult to measure.
Check the information at actual size
Place the artwork on the paper mock-up and read it at normal handling distance. Confirm your approved product wording before the layout is final. If the available area is too small, discuss a different layout or label format instead of shrinking everything until it becomes hard to read.
Include material and handling details
Tell the printer what the container is made of and whether the label may meet water, oils or cream. Describe any coating or texture. Keep the measurements and container reference with the approved design so a future change in packaging is caught before a reorder.
